Reflection of Glory

There was a time that wickedness coursed my veins.
I chose to carry around the heaviest of chains.
Weighed down by the selfishness consuming my soul,
Focusing on the fact that I was in complete control,
Trying to ensure a security that I would never gain,
Not knowing that without help it's impossible to attain.
I was lost, without hope of a future beyond this life;
I was being devoured by pains and unending strife.
Lacking purpose or true vision, I was wandering.
My numbered days still ahead, I was squandering.
Frustration and hate were a way of life--a standard.
The One who created me through love, I slandered.

At a time when emotional pain was at its peak,
It was then for the first time I heard God speak.
I knew in my heart He was real, without question,
He left on me a gentle and long-lasting impression--
One of love, mercy, and abundant overflowing grace.
Also the promise: in eternity He's saving me a place.
I choose to believe that Jesus is my Savior and Lord,
And because of His blood our connection is restored.
Sins erased, never again will they come to His mind,
God chooses to forget them, forgiveness we find.
My future is changed forever, I have new direction--
As a son of God, I am to be His earthly reflection.

My hope rests in the power of Jesus' blood
Cleansing my submitted heart in a rushing flood.
Restored to an eternal relationship I needed,
The expectations I had of Him were exceeded.
Jesus did more than my imagination could see,
I've been changed and taught how to love freely.
My heart is new and no longer like a rigid stone,
I have Jesus and I will never again be alone.
Closer than a brother, He remains by my side,
Leading me on this journey as my eternal guide.
I will walk with Christ for the rest of my days,
Thanking Him for this new heart that He gave.
